Sunday Funnies: HEATHCLIFF

coverJPG

"Heathcliff's creator, George Gately, has been plagued by 'cartoonitis' since he was a child. In grammar school, his fourth grade art teacher gave the class an assignment to draw a picture depicting something from the American Revolution. George titled his picture 'George Washington Crossing The Delaware', drew an empty body of water with bubbles surfacing and subtitled it 'The Boat Sank'. George didn't get a very good mark in Art that month.

He did better later on when he started freelance cartooning. His first major sale was to The Saturday Evening Post. Since then he has appeared in just about every leading magazine in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, and around the world. His work has even been displayed at a cartoon exhibit in the Louvre in Paris."

In no particular order, here's a few of my favorites from the book:

from HEATHCLIFF (ISBN: 0-448-17335-2) 1976

Heathcliff001

Hey, at least they brought him home instead of going straight to the pound

Heathcliff005

Like them dang 'ol Duke boys, he's "been in trouble with the law since the day he was born"

Heathcliff007

He doesn't get along with criminals too well, either

Heathcliff008

He's pretty energetic for a fat cat, ain't he?

Heathcliff017

He's a little conceited, but he has three girlfriends, so you can kinda understand why

Heathcliff023

There's a right time and a wrong time for practical jokes. Heathcliff doesn't know the difference

Heathcliff041

Despite his unlikeable traits, he's a helpful sort of cat

Heathcliff070

HEATHCLIFF. FAMOUS AMERICAN.
